More than 30 antique stores, specialty shops and craft malls, including art galleries featuring original paintings, woodcarvings, metal art and pottery are among the many fine shopping facilities that Mineola offers. The Mineola League of the Arts offers classes in quilting, music, dancing, fiber arts, painting and a Children's Summer Art Camp. Amtrak-Texas Eagle stops in Mineola six days each week-Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 1:48 p.m. going west to Dallas and beyond; it stops on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 4:27going east to Longview and on to Chicago. The Mineola Civic Center is one of the most amazing facilities that you will find in a town of 5,000 people. With six lighted tennis courts, picnic grounds and a wonderful children's playground area, the Civic Center hosts meetings and banquets up to 500, enticing groups from large metropolitan areas. Festivals and Events Mineola May Days Bean Festival and Bean Cook-Off is held the first week-end each May; Iron Horse Heritage Festival is the second week-end each October. Christmas festivities begin the Saturday after Thanksgiving and continue through the holidays until the New Year. There is a Fourth of July FreedomFest at the Civic Center each July 4th with spectacular fireworks; an annual Fireman's Rodeo each July; a Halloween House of Horrors and a Halloween Block Party on October 31st.
